Wats, spicy meat or chicken stews flavored with Berbere are the national dish of Ethiopia. They are traditionally served on a giant flat bread or injera, from which pieces are ripped to scoop up the food. Monsoon Coast Berbere is a blend of nine carefully selected spices which cushion the fiery chilis so necessary in Ethiopian cuisine. Berbere is also great as a rub for meat or fish before grilling or as a base for a marinade. We enjoy making vegetarian dishes or alechas which showcase Berbere’s velvet intensity beautifully.
